WORK EXPERIENCE
This event is designed for school students in any year who have an interest in Medicine and consider applying to Medical School. This event will give school students a better understanding of what medicine and surgery are like in real life and how this work experience event can be incorporated successfully in their future medical school application.
You asked, we delivered!
Hundreds of emails from across the world have asked us for unique work experience placements that will allow you to truly understand a day in the life of a junior doctor, not only theoretical but also practical. We have therefore accepted the challenge, especially at a time where online events are the new norm. A team of doctors, actors, medical students, filming crew and preparatory materials have been put together to ensure a unique and truly interactive experience, split into CLINICAL MEDICINE and SURGERY.
Clinical Medicine
Dreaming of becoming a doctor one day? What about joining London doctors and attending virtual clinics, learning the theory and then...let's move to the fun part - practice!
You will get to understand the patient journey, from examination, to diagnosis, and all the way up to treatment. During simulated patient scenarios, you will get the chance to diagnose and even prescribe medication to you 'own patient' using real drug charts.
Learn how to manage emergency situations: Using interactive and engaging course materials - from airway management and intubation, to starting basic life support - you will be taught not only why, but how to act quickly when an emergency situation arises.
Surgery
Take part in LIVE surgery performed by real surgeons on real skin, muscle, bones and organs, all streamed virtually from an operating theatre in London. You will be given WORLD class teaching based on the Royal College of Surgeons curriculum to suit pre medical students. We aim to equip you with the knowledge, insight and practical skills to elevate you as a top medical school applicant who has already started their surgical experience!
Our surgeons will present SIMULATED patients in both emergency and elective surgery where YOU will have to make life or death decisions. You will then take part in a LIVE laparoscopic surgery simulation using state of the art minimally invasive technology, followed by a LIVE demonstration where YOU will learn (and even practice!!) the most common surgical knots including the reef knot, surgeons knot, Aberdeen knot many more!
Extra
The Live clinics and practical sessions have been meticulously designed for school students to enable them to understand what medicine looks like in reality. Every practical session will be followed by "an application session" where doctors will help students integrate every aspect of this work experience placement into their future medical school application. This way you leave the event feeling like a real doctor, plus we make sure your experience counts towards your medical school application.
